Nicole Pinnell is highly sought after as a recording artist and concert cellist, known for her lyricism and distinct emotional style. In just 2021 Nicole has performed with Olivia Rodrigo (The Tonight Show), David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco (Utah Inauguration), the Lamb of God (Concert Film, Rob Gardner), and as a keynote guest for the American String Teacher Association of Utah. She is an award-winning composer, and her album of original arrangements with Rebecca Pacheco and Nick Petty topped the Billboard Charts.
Nicole is also the soloist on three Grammy-nominated albums and the #1 Billboard charting album Higher. She is a solo cellist for Warner Chappell Production Music, Platinum Labs, Funk Studios, Rosewood Studios, the Hale Theatre, and Utah's MagicSpace Entertainment National Broadway tours, among others.  Nicole concertizes regularly as a classical artist in solo recitals and chamber music. She has performed regularly with the Utah Symphony for over 20 years, and also plays with some of Utah's finest bands. Nicole performs in many styles and is proficient on a Line-6 Helix with looping and electronic effects. She also tours with her classical group, the Uinta Trio, with Monte Belknap on violin and Michael McQuay on piano.
Currently, Nicole is a student of Eugene Friesen, working on a Master of Music in Contemporary Performance. Nicole began the cello with Kathy Franceschi at the National Suzuki Center of Stevens Point and had performed in Carnegie Hall by age 14. Additional studies with Peter Howard (principal, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra) defined her tone and technique. Additional coaching by Yo-Yo Ma and Pinchas Zukerman helped to define her artistry, and studies with a Peruvian Shaman, Hindustani guruji, African djele and Syrian oud virtuoso helped her to find the elements that make her playing so distinct and evocative. Nicole is an avid teacher and won Utah’s prestigious “Educator of the Year,” awarded by the American String Teacher Association in 2012.  Her former students have careers in professional orchestras, are on full scholarship at major conservatories, or are finalists in Utah’s prestigious Salute to Youth competition. When she's not playing the cello, Nicole loves to spend time with her family, wear cozy pjs and fuzzy socks, and dig in the garden.
